Course description

Compassion Fatigue refers to the profound emotional and physical exhaustion that helping professionals and caregivers can develop over the course of their career. It is a gradual erosion of all the things that keep us connected to others: our empathy, our hope, and of course our compassion - not only for others but also for ourselves. Compassion fatigue has also been described as the “cost of caring" for others in emotional pain

Compassion Fatigue for caregivers

by kay ralph
This paper was interesting in the fact that its about time that the stressors for ECEs are recognized.

The title is okay, but i felt this was more for front line medical staff.

Liked the moduale, but I will challenge the Question 2, there are people who experience the compassionate fatigue by watching the media and how governments and systematic operations is failing people.

I thought it described what working in this everyday world to a tee. There was excellent ideas of how to deal with the stress of working outside our homes. I also learned that even though we care more for the people that we work with that i have to start to care more for myself. I need to learn to stop and smell the flowers. Thanks again for the lesson :)

The title was descriptive of the main idea of the text.

The following key points that I learned: * Develop and maintain strong social support both home and work. * Make time for life and family. * Develop stress resiliency, such as relaxation, meditation, mindfulness and recreation.

Having been through compassion fatigue, I would agree with all points made in this module. This module did an excellent job describing CF, VT and burnout but also gave some great strategies to deal with this personally and also as a supervisor.

This is very educational! Awesome! Thank you!

The topic is so apt to me! Now I realized what I was feeling! I love my job as an ECE but there are times that I felt so tired! Now I know why and how to deal with it! Thank you!

Remember to take care of you so you can continue to help and be productive . Love this quote from this module "The expectation that we can be immersed in suffering and loss daily and not be touched by it is as unrealistic as expecting to be able to walk through water without getting wet." (Naomi Remen, Kitchen Table Wisdom, in Mathieu, 2014B, p. 7)
